Kyrgyzstan Closes the Last Settlement Colonies
The state aims for more efficient use of its resources In Kyrgyzstan, the process of closing settlement colonies—specific correctional institutions that have been deemed outdated and ineffective—is coming to an end. The completion of the reform will occur with the liquidation of the second group of institutions, scheduled for the end of January 2026. Supervision of convicts who have been assigned light forms of punishment is now fully transferred to the probation institute.
