The Ministry of Culture and UNESCO experts discussed the optimization of the buffer zone of "Sulaiman Too"

Recently, the Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mirbek Mambetaliev, met with an international group of experts who arrived in the country to work on the UNESCO World Heritage site — "Sacred Mountain — Sulayman Too".

According to the Ministry of Culture, this visit by the experts is part of the implementation of the resolution of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, adopted on October 31, 2025, regarding the optimization of the buffer zone boundaries of the World Heritage site. The experts' mission will be in Kyrgyzstan from January 7 to 12.


The group consists of: the goodwill ambassador of Kazakhstan and member of the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ISESCO, Dmitry Voyakin; the former president of ICOMOS Nepal and coordinator of the ICOMOS Regional Network for the Asia-Pacific region, Kai Waize; and the cultural heritage specialist, Nargiz Aituganova.

During their visit, the experts intend to prepare a new nomination aimed at optimizing the boundaries of the buffer zone, as well as conducting an impact assessment on the World Heritage site.

During the meeting, important issues were raised regarding the preservation of the "Sulayman Too" site, compliance with UNESCO recommendations, and further steps for preparing the updated nomination. The Minister of Culture emphasized the significance of constructive interaction with international specialists and expressed readiness for full cooperation to preserve the unique historical and cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan.
