President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev Resigns

Rumen Radev, who has held the position of President of Bulgaria since 2017, announced his resignation during an address to the nation. He also expressed his intention to participate in the upcoming early parliamentary elections, as stated in his announcement.
Radev's resignation was a result of a growing wave of protests in the country that began in December. These protests were triggered by video recordings that spread on social media, showing how deputies from the ruling coalition passed a law on local assets of "Lukoil" in just 26 seconds, as well as a vote on a controversial budget project that took place during a lunch break.

Against the backdrop of the protests, on December 11, Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov also resigned.
