Moscow Launches Driverless Metro. Currently in Test Mode

In the Moscow metro, tests of a driverless train have begun, which will initially take place without passengers. Inside the train, there will be a driver responsible for monitoring the operation of all systems and ensuring safety along the route.

It is expected that the first passenger trips on driverless trains will start in 2027, and by 2030, the first line of a fully driverless metro is planned to be opened.

Moscow already has various experimental projects in operation, such as the driverless tram "Lion Cub-Moscow," and an extensive traffic monitoring and management system has been developed. Additionally, the capital is actively testing commercial deliveries using robots, autonomous boats have been created, a "digital twin" of the city has been established, and experiments on year-round robotic cleaning in five city parks have been conducted. Robotic technologies are being implemented in healthcare, retail, and logistics.
