The group includes representatives from various ministries, including the Ministry of National Economy, the Ministry of Ecology, the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs "Atameken," the Border Service of the National Security Committee, and the Ministry of Transport.
According to information from the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the new road is being considered as an alternative to the existing route Almaty – Otar – Kordai – Bishkek – Cholpon-Ata, which is approximately 460 kilometers long.
According to the agency, some of the necessary infrastructure is already in place. However, in Kazakhstan, about 80 kilometers will need to be repaired, while in Kyrgyzstan, about 6 kilometers. The ministry noted that work on the feasibility study for the project, which began in 2024, is ongoing. This document will contain the main parameters of the road, such as the exact route, category, length, projected traffic flow, financial aspects, and proposed tariffs. The legal requirements of both countries will also be taken into account.
It is expected that the feasibility study will be completed by September 2026. After that, the parties will be able to make a final decision on the implementation of the project, including the possibility of attracting private investments through the public-private partnership mechanism.
