At the Osh Bird Market, Poultry is Prepared in Unsanitary Conditions: What Measures Have Been Taken

According to reports from social media users, at the bird market in Osh, poultry is being slaughtered and processed in conditions far from sanitary norms, right among the garbage.

One of the video clips captures how chickens and turkeys are killed and processed against the backdrop of a pile of waste, while burning clothing is used for kindling, which negatively impacts the environment.

Sanjarbek Ergeshev, head of the regional veterinary and phytosanitary service in Osh and the Osh region, reported that the relevant authorities have already begun explanatory work, and cleanup of the area is underway.

“Explanatory notes have been collected, and an act has been drawn up,” he noted.

Asanbek Mamaraimov, head of the Osh regional office of the State Inspection for Ecological and Technical Safety, added that warnings had already been issued to the workers at the bird market in the past.

“Previously, private entrepreneurs operating at this market were sent warnings, and three of them received fines totaling 30,000 soms. Letters have been sent to the mayor's office demanding either to ensure normal conditions for the slaughter of birds on-site or to relocate the process to another location. Our employees have been working with the municipal inspection of the mayor's office for two days. The owner of the site has also been identified, and he will be fined,” Mamaraimov added.
