The Times named four possible ways for Greenland to join the USA
The Times notes that the military capabilities of the United States allow for a forceful takeover of Greenland. However, such an operation against a NATO ally could negatively impact the alliance and provoke resistance from the local population.
The publication also considers the option of concluding a Compact of Free Association, which implies that the U.S. provides financial assistance while the countries, in turn, place defense matters under Washington's control, while maintaining internal self-governance.
Another possible scenario includes an offer to Copenhagen to buy the island, as well as a variant in which Greenland remains part of Denmark with an increased American military presence on the territory.
Analysts suggest that the most likely development will not be direct military intervention, but a combination of economic pressure, diplomatic efforts, and political influence.
