87 Enterprises Will Be Relocated from Tashkent for the Sake of Ecology
In Uzbekistan, an important stage begins to improve the environmental situation in Tashkent. The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change has approved a list of 87 enterprises recognized as energy-intensive and environmentally unsafe. These facilities will gradually be relocated outside the capital. The process involves not only physical relocation but also complete technological modernization in accordance with international standards of the green economy.
The first to be relocated is the "Uztvorcvetmet" plant, located in the Yangihayot district. This enterprise uses outdated equipment dating back to the 1970s and is classified as Category I for environmental hazard. A special commission has decided to move the plant to the free economic zone of the Jizzakh region. It is expected that replacing the old smelting furnaces with modern equipment will reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere by 227 tons per year.
It should be noted that strict measures have already been applied to the plant: in October, it was fined over 18 billion sums as compensation for environmental damage. Part of these funds will be used to upgrade production equipment through various preferential mechanisms. Similar directives have also been issued to the Tashkent Pipe Plant and the capital branch of "Vtorchermet".
This initiative is part of a strategy to reduce industrial impact on major cities. It is worth recalling that since last year, a ban has been imposed on launching new enterprises related to cement, asbestos, leather processing, as well as metallurgical and chemical enterprises of Classes I and II of hazard that do not have highly efficient filtration systems.
