In Kyrgyzstan, the Causes and Treatment of Ureter Injuries in Patients After Surgery Were Studied
Iatrogenic injuries of the ureter represent serious complications arising from surgical interventions in the pelvic and abdominal areas. These complications significantly worsen the quality of life for patients, making timely diagnosis and effective treatment crucial.
As part of the study, medical records of 141 patients who faced iatrogenic ureteral injuries and received treatment at the National Hospital from 2010 to 2024 were analyzed. The analysis included both retrospective and prospective data.
Diagnosis was based on clinical symptoms and instrumental methods such as ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT), and retrograde ureterography. Statistical data processing was performed using SPSS 24.0.
Key findings of the study:
- 87.2% of the patients were women, while 12.8% were men.
- The majority of injuries (72.3%) occurred after gynecological surgeries, and 92.2% of them were localized in the distal segment of the ureter.
- In 92.9% of cases, the diagnosis of injuries was delayed until the postoperative period; only 7.1% were identified during surgery.
- The primary treatment method used was ureterocystoneoanastomosis (68.1%), while 8.5% of patients required nephrectomy.
The anatomical location of the ureter and its proximity to the pelvic vessels make it particularly susceptible to injuries. Delayed diagnosis can lead to serious complications, while the use of minimally invasive methods and reconstructive surgery can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
"Timely detection and comprehensive treatment of iatrogenic ureteral injuries help reduce the risk of complications and improve the quality of life for patients. The implementation of preventive measures and improvement of diagnostic methods is necessary," the conclusion emphasizes.
