Uzbekistan's Foreign Ministry: No casualties among citizens during protests in Iran, citizens urged not to participate in demonstrations
The Ministry has urged citizens of Uzbekistan who are in Iran to refrain from participating in any rallies and demonstrations. The press release from the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Akhror Burkhanov, also includes recommendations to avoid crowded places and to strictly follow personal safety measures as stated in the message.
Protests in Iran began in late December due to a sharp decline in the national currency and rising prices for essential goods. Participants are demanding changes to the political regime. According to human rights defenders, the number of fatalities exceeds 2,000, and more than 10,000 have been arrested. On January 13, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed readiness to assist the protesters and announced preparations for measures to impact Iran, although details were not disclosed.
