The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported no injured Kyrgyz citizens during the protests in Iran.
In light of the current events, the ministry strongly advises citizens of Kyrgyzstan to avoid traveling to Iran unless absolutely necessary.
Those who are already in Iranian territory are advised to exercise extreme caution, avoid crowds and protests, follow the instructions of local authorities, and carry identification and contact details for the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to the human rights organization HRANA, at least 36 people have died during the protests in Iran over the past ten days, including 34 participants in the demonstrations and two members of the security forces. Iranian authorities have only acknowledged the deaths of three law enforcement officers, as reported by the BBC.
HRANA also reports more than 60 injured and 2,076 detained during the protests. BBC Persian confirmed the information regarding the deaths of 20 individuals.
The protests in Iran began in late 2025 when entrepreneurs started expressing dissatisfaction due to the worsening economic situation and a sharp decline in the value of the Iranian rial, which lost almost 50% of its value against the US dollar. In December 2025, inflation reached 42.5%. Since December 30, students have joined the protests, and demonstrations have spread across the country.
According to estimates from global media, the current protests are the largest since the unrest of 2022, triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini. As reported by the Associated Press on January 1, 2026, at least seven deaths have been recorded in four cities in Iran, and protests have spread to numerous settlements.
US President Donald Trump expressed support for the peaceful protesters on his social network Truth Social, calling for action in the event of violent repression by the Iranian authorities.
