
On February 9, 2026, various online resources and media reported that 75 citizens had appealed to President Sadyr Japarov and Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbekov with a request for the urgent holding of new presidential elections in the country. Among the signatories were scientists, former prime ministers, former deputies, and public figures.
The ministry emphasized that some points of this appeal caused a wide resonance in society and contributed to the deterioration of the socio-political situation in Kyrgyzstan.
Based on this event, a criminal case has been initiated under part 1 of article 278 ("Mass Riots") of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
During the investigation, all 75 signatories were summoned to the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where necessary investigative actions were conducted with them. Citizens T. B., born in 1955, U. E., and D. K., born in 1960, were identified as the main initiators and active participants in this crime, and they were also detained and placed in the temporary detention facility.
Investigative actions are ongoing, including searches at the residences of the detainees. The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges the population not to succumb to provocations and not to spread controversial information.
