In France, there are proposals to withdraw from NATO

Clemence Goutte, holding the position of Vice President of the National Assembly of France, announced plans to bring a resolution to discussion that could lead to the country's exit from NATO. This decision is a response to unfriendly actions from the United States, which Goutte reported on her account on X.

“The question of France's role in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is becoming particularly relevant, considering that this military alliance is effectively under U.S. control,” she wrote, adding that she proposes to adopt a resolution calling for a planned exit of France from NATO, starting with its joint command.

The reasons that prompted Goutte to take this step include recent actions and statements from the American leadership, which she listed. The politician noted, among other things, the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the U.S. President, as well as Donald Trump's remarks about Greenland, which belongs to Denmark. Additionally, she criticized the U.S. for its support of the "genocide in Palestine" and for "bombings that violate international law."

France was one of the founding members of NATO, signing the North Atlantic Treaty. In 1966, as a result of President Charles de Gaulle's decision, the country withdrew from the military command of the alliance but maintained its participation in the political structures of the organization, which was a consequence of the conflict with the U.S. At that time, NATO's headquarters was moved from Paris to Brussels, and American military bases were closed on French territory. However, in 2009, under President Nicolas Sarkozy, France restored its full membership in NATO.
