As Axios reports, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff held a secret meeting with Reza Pahlavi, the leader of the Iranian opposition. Furthermore, journalist Barak Ravid added that during closed meetings, Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned that the administration is considering ways to support the protesters without the use of force.
Earlier, the State Department urged U.S. citizens and allied countries to leave Iran. When asked what specific assistance would be provided to the protesters, the U.S. president replied, "I'm sorry, but you'll have to figure that out for yourselves."
During his speech in Detroit, the president called for the restoration of Iran's greatness, saying, "This country was great until these monsters came and took it over."
According to the Wall Street Journal, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar warned the U.S. against attempts to overthrow the Iranian regime, claiming that this could destabilize oil markets and negatively impact the U.S. economy. These states express concerns that strikes against Iran could disrupt the transportation of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
