Western Sanctions: In 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Will Continue Consultations with Partners

Kyrgyzstan is actively engaging with partners from the European Union, the USA, and the United Kingdom on issues related to sanctions. This information was announced by Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev at a press conference, where he answered questions about the imposition of Western sanctions on domestic enterprises.

Kulubaev noted that the republic has conducted numerous consultations, during which it explained its position and even proposed to conduct an independent audit. Despite this, Western countries continue to impose sanctions unilaterally, which he believes is a mistaken decision. “Kyrgyzstan is located in the center of Central Asia, and a significant amount of transit cargo and trade passes through it,” the minister emphasized.

He added that the country cannot cease trade relations with traditional partners due to the sanction pressure from the West.

“During crises and conflicts, our economy faces restrictions, and we need to continue working, trading, and ensuring the security and well-being of our population. We discuss this with our partners and continue to fulfill international obligations. If there is serious evidence, we are ready to consider it; however, they have no such grounds,” Kulubaev said.

According to him, in 2026, the Kyrgyz side will continue its negotiations on this topic.

The situation with sanctions escalated after Russia's invasion of Ukraine when a number of Western countries imposed restrictions against the Russian economy. As a result, companies from other countries, including Kyrgyzstan, began to fall under sanctions. In particular, in October 2025, the European Union added two banks—“Tolubai” and the Eurasian Savings Bank—to the sanctions lists. In February of last year, “Keremet Bank” was included in a new sanctions list by the United Kingdom; it had also previously come under U.S. restrictions. Additionally, several companies from Kyrgyzstan have also been affected by sanctions.
