The annual coal export from Kyrgyzstan amounts to 1.5 million tons
More than 4 million tons of coal are mined in the country each year, with 1.385 million tons produced by the state enterprise "Kyrgyzkomur." Of the total coal volume, about 2.5 million tons are used for domestic needs, while 1.5 million tons are exported.
At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee dealing with agricultural policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection, Deputy Mahabat Mavlyanova proposed to limit coal exports to reserve some resources for future generations.
She also called on the government for a more strategic approach to resource management.
