Umbetaly Kydyraiev: There is no need to assign a different meaning to work moments
During the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 11, he reminded that on February 9, there was a meeting of the committee dealing with agricultural policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection.
“I told Bakyt Ergeshovich that according to international law, based on the decision made at the UN conference in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, the water that passes through the territory of Kyrgyzstan is an economic resource. I asked the question: ‘Are we receiving economic payment for the water that flows through us?’ To which Torobaev replied that there is an intergovernmental commission with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and according to its work, neighboring countries provide us with assistance, including financing the repair of hydro facilities and dams. This is an important aspect of geopolitics. However, now my friends from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are wondering why I am raising this issue as if Kyrgyzstan is going to sell water. Some international opposition structures misinterpret this in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. These are just working moments between a deputy and an official, but they are given a completely different meaning. I want to emphasize that we have agreements under which we supply water, and in response, our neighbors make concessions to us on other issues. These are just working moments,” the deputy concluded.
