The Ministry of Culture will introduce mandatory subtitles in Kyrgyz for foreign films

The Deputy Minister of Culture Marat Tagaev announced a new requirement that all foreign films in cinemas must be shown with subtitles in the Kyrgyz language. This statement was made on January 19 at a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, which deals with issues of education, science, and culture.

Additionally, during the meeting, plans were revealed to liquidate the institution "Kyrgyzfilm." In accordance with new changes in the legislation regarding cinema, a number of artistic norms will also be revised. One of the key innovations will be the mandatory addition of subtitles in the Kyrgyz language to foreign films. As Tagaev noted, this innovation may cause dissatisfaction among some distributors.

“We are actively working on preparing the necessary documents. These changes will be introduced soon, and of course, there may be discontent, but we hope for your support,” Tagaev added at the committee meeting.
