In March, a "language check" of TV channels in Kyrgyzstan will begin
At least 60% of the content must be in the Kyrgyz language
In March 2026, a review of the content of all television channels in Kyrgyzstan will begin. This was announced by Marat Tagaev, Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy.
The review will be conducted to ensure compliance with the norms established by the country's legislation, according to which at least 60% of programming content must be in the state language.
“We do not plan to close channels at this stage. If necessary, purchase content from 'Kyrgyzfilm' and 'Kyrgyzserial',” Tagaev suggested, adding that violations may lead to appropriate measures from the authorities.
It should be noted that there are 42 television channels operating in the republic, of which only two are state-owned: NTRK and ELTR.
