In Kyrgyzstan, requirements for the production of domestic films will be increased

At a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh dedicated to science, education, and culture, it was announced that standards for domestic cinema in Kyrgyzstan are expected to rise. Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy Marat Tagaev noted that the country's film industry is actively progressing.

“Currently, each film studio independently determines which films to produce, and script approvals occur only through the artistic council. However, an artistic-expert council will now be created under the Department of Cinematography, which will take on the function of defining the themes and content of future films. A National Council for Cinematography has also been established, which will be under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister,” he added.

According to Tagaev, until 2020, approximately 100 million soms were allocated to cinematography, while in 2025-2026 this amount will increase to 1 billion. “Thus, funding has increased tenfold. Interest in film production in the country is significant, but it is also necessary to pay attention to the quality of the content being created,” the official emphasized.

Additionally, he reported that there are 37 cinemas operating in Kyrgyzstan. “In 2024, we leased 20 of them. Currently, the Department of Cinematography owns another 10 cinemas, which we are ready to lease if a interested investor is found,” noted Marat Tagaev.
