The head of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic commented on the construction of football fields in the Botanical Garden
According to him, the planned fields will be located in the part of the Botanical Garden that is on Akhunbaev Street.
“The old football field existed back when the Botanical Garden was just beginning to develop. Thus, the new fields will simply be a restoration of what previously existed. The total area of this territory is 87 hectares, and the mini football fields will occupy 16 hundredths, which is only 0.18 percent of the entire area of the Botanical Garden. I hope this will not cause significant damage to the garden,” he added.
Kanatbek Abdrakhmatov also commented on the situation with the cutting down of trees in the Botanical Garden. He noted that in recent years, the area on Akhunbaev Street had been in a neglected state, so the decision was made to “remove the overgrowth with the help of a bulldozer.”
“It is possible that some useful plants were destroyed in the process. However, in the new garden we are creating, both the trees that were uprooted and new varieties that have not been previously found there will be planted. We hope that in a few years our updated Botanical Garden will become a beautiful and attractive place,” concluded the head of the NAS KR.
He also added that scientific research continues in the territory of the Botanical Garden, which is located on Gorky Street.
Earlier, the administration of the Botanical Garden reported that the presidential administration began the construction of two football fields near the central entrance, along 7 April Street. The site was chosen due to the rocky soil and lack of water, which did not allow vegetation to take root there.
It is worth noting that in January 2025, the research institute "Enver Gareev Botanical Garden" was granted the status of a specially protected natural area. The corresponding decision was signed by the chairman of the cabinet of ministers, Adylbek Kasymaliev.
