Do Not Destroy the Botanical Garden: Residents Urge to Sign the Petition
Residents of Bishkek are actively calling on social media to sign a petition against plans to develop the Enver Gareev Botanical Garden. Civic activists demand to halt the project, which proposes the creation of football fields in an area known as the city's "lungs."
According to the activists, the destruction of this green space will lead to serious consequences, including the loss of a unique ecosystem and scientific heritage that has accumulated over many years.
They insist on the need to find other locations for construction.
“The Botanical Garden is not just a park. It is a corner of clean air, silence, and coolness, as well as the result of many years of work by scientists and ecologists. Football fields cannot replace the trees that filter the air, support biodiversity, and enliven our city. The city should not only consist of asphalt and high-rise buildings but also be a complete ecosystem! The destruction of the Botanical Garden will be an irreparable loss for our capital and for future generations. We demand to preserve the garden in its current boundaries and to consider alternative sites for the construction of football fields,” they state.
