The Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Sergey Lebedev, named the main task of the CIS in 2026.

Secretary General of the CIS Sergey Lebedev shared his opinion that in 2026, when the organization celebrates its anniversary, one of the main tasks will be to develop multilateral cooperation among the member states.

According to Lebedev, among the priority initiatives for the coming years is the implementation of the concept of connecting key transport routes, which will allow for the creation of an integrated system. This, in turn, will lead to a reduction in costs and an increase in the transit capabilities of the CIS countries. In addition, a strategy for the fuel and energy sector is being developed, projected until 2035 with a horizon extending to 2050.

He also noted that it is necessary to raise the level of foreign economic interaction and turn the CIS into an effective platform for dialogue with such associations as the EAEU, SCO, BRICS, and OES.

The Commonwealth of Independent States is an international organization that unites a number of countries that were previously part of the Soviet Union. The creation of the CIS was officially formalized on December 8, 1991.
