The Commander of Danish Forces in Greenland stated that he considers Russia the main threat.
The Major General also pointed out that at the moment there are no Chinese or Russian vessels observed in the waters near Greenland; however, one Russian research vessel was located 310 nautical miles (approximately 574 km) from the coast.
He commented: "This is the closest presence," adding that NATO allies are "well informed about the situation in the region."
Andersen predicted an increase in Russian activity in the Greenland area in the coming years, which will prompt Denmark to expand its military presence in the Arctic.
"We need to start preparatory measures and increase our presence in the Arctic region to protect NATO's northern border," he noted.
Furthermore, the Major General ruled out the possibility of conflict among NATO allies, emphasizing that Denmark operates in close cooperation with the alliance. According to him, interaction with American military forces is conducted on a regular basis.
