The Times named four possible scenarios for Greenland's accession to the USA

According to the British publication The Times, the Trump administration may pursue the annexation of Greenland through four different approaches. The first of these involves the possibility of a military invasion of the island.

The second scenario includes coercion, in which the U.S. could offer Denmark a buyout of Greenland with the guarantee of significant investments in the island's economy and improvements in living conditions for the local population.

The third option is related to signing a compact of free association, which the U.S. already has with several states in the Pacific, such as the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, and the Marshall Islands. These agreements involve providing financial assistance from Washington in exchange for the transfer of defense powers, while still maintaining internal self-governance.

The fourth option considers keeping Greenland as part of Denmark while increasing the American military presence on the island. This could involve commercial deals with American companies engaged in mineral extraction, as well as appointing U.S. representatives as advisors to local authorities.

All proposed scenarios vary in levels of political and military pressure, but each suggests an increase in U.S. influence over Greenland.
