In his post on social media platform X, Fine emphasized that this bill would give the president the opportunity to find funds for the annexation of Greenland.
The congressman also noted that "our rivals are seeking to strengthen their position in the Arctic, and we cannot allow that," which aligns with the official position of the president's administration.
According to a press release referenced by The Hill, Fine added that control over Greenland provides the ability to manage key maritime routes in the Arctic and significantly impacts the security of the United States.
Under the bill, U.S. President Donald Trump is granted the authority "to take any necessary actions to acquire Greenland as a territory of the United States," which includes the possibility of annexing the island.
At the time of publication, there was no information on whether the lower house would consider this bill.
Previously, Trump has repeatedly pointed to threats from Russia and China, emphasizing the importance of Greenland. Meanwhile, diplomats from Northern Europe, as reported by the Financial Times, do not confirm Trump's claims about the presence of Russian and Chinese ships near the island.
