According to information from RBC, the congressman noted that this initiative is aimed at protecting the strategic interests of the United States in the Arctic region and countering threats posed by China and Russia.

Fine emphasizes that Greenland is an important resource for national security: "Control over Greenland means control over key maritime routes and security mechanisms that protect our country," he stated.

Currently, the bill has not been registered in the Congressional database. A press release issued by his office mentions that the U.S. President is proposed to be authorized to take necessary actions for the "annexation or other acquisition of Greenland as a territory of the United States," including through negotiations with the Danish government.

After the annexation process is completed, the president will be required to present changes to federal laws to Congress regarding the acceptance of the "new territory" as a state.

Fine also expressed the opinion that Joe Biden's policies have weakened the strategic position of the U.S. in the Arctic, while China and Russia are "actively strengthening their presence" in the region.

Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. It was a colony of Denmark until 1953 and gained autonomous status with self-government rights in 2009.

It is also worth noting that Donald Trump, starting from his second presidential term, repeatedly expressed the need to include Greenland as part of the U.S., citing its strategic significance.
