At a briefing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that Beijing does not support the United States using China and Russia as a pretext to advance its interests in the Arctic region.

This statement comes in the wake of comments from German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul, who, during his visit to Iceland, called on U.S. President Donald Trump for joint actions within NATO to counter "threats" from China and Russia in the Arctic.

Mao Ning noted that the Arctic is an area that affects the interests of the entire international community, and that China's actions in this region contribute to peace, stability, and sustainable development, as well as comply with international law.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry representative also emphasized that Beijing disagrees with the notion that the U.S. uses China and Russia to justify its actions.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt mentioned that the potential acquisition of Greenland by the United States is necessary to curb the influence of Russia and China in the Arctic.

Meanwhile, the Financial Times, citing informed sources, reported that diplomats from Northern Europe have refuted Trump's claims about the presence of Russian and Chinese vessels near Greenland. According to two senior diplomats, there have been no signs of these vessels or submarines in the area in recent years.

"It is simply not true that Chinese and Russian ships are there. I have seen the intelligence data. There are no ships or submarines in that area," one of the diplomats noted in a conversation with the publication.
