What should those living on the edge of poverty do? Don't the deputies care?
On February 12, during a session of the Jogorku Kenesh, a draft law concerning the increase in payment for alternative service in Kyrgyzstan was approved in the first reading.
The document, titled "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts (to the Code on Non-Tax Revenues, the Code on Offenses, the Law on Universal Military Duty of Citizens, on Military and Alternative Services)," was presented by the Ministry of Defense. It provides for a significant increase in tariffs for mobilization reserve fees and alternative service.
The increase affects the following categories:
- mobilization reserve fees will rise to 75,000 soms (previously 50,000 soms);
- fees for training reserve officers will amount to 90,000 soms (currently 70,000 soms);
- the fee for alternative service due to family circumstances will increase to 25,000 soms (instead of 18,000 soms);
- alternative service for health reasons will now cost 50,000 soms (was 25,000 soms);
- for alternative service for religious reasons, one will have to pay 50,000 soms (instead of 25,000 soms);
- enrollment in the reserve of the second category will also increase to 50,000 soms (currently 25,000 soms);
- the fine for violating military registration rules for conscripts and reservists will be 10,000 soms (instead of 1,000 soms).
The authors of the draft law noted that the increase in payments is related to inflation and the economic development of the country.
