President Sadyr Japarov signed a law ratifying the exchange notes concluded between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of Japan. These documents pertain to the project for the reconstruction of the bridge over the Naryn River on the Bishkek - Osh highway, signed on December 12, 2025, in Bishkek. This information was provided by the information policy service of the president's administration.

The law was approved by the Jogorku Kenesh on February 26 and is necessary to carry out internal procedures for the agreement to come into effect.

The grant agreement involves the construction of a modern 210-meter-long bridge over the Naryn River, which will significantly improve transportation links. The new bridge will ensure stable traffic on the Bishkek - Osh highway, increase capacity, and reduce travel time for freight and passenger transport, as well as strengthen the region's connection to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. The bridge construction will take place in the Toktogul district of the Jalal-Abad region, at the 315th kilometer of the highway, where a bridge built in 1964 previously stood, which can no longer perform its functions.

Japan is allocating a grant of 3 billion 190 million Japanese yen (approximately $20 million 49 thousand) for the implementation of this project. Kyrgyzstan will also contribute from the republican budget, allocating $113,202 (about 10 million soms).

The law will come into effect ten days after its official publication.
