Doctors warn: tubing can be dangerous

In winter, riding on tubes, also known as "vatruška," and inflatable rings becomes one of the most popular pastimes. However, experts from the Republican Center for Health Promotion warn that this activity can pose dangers if simple safety rules are not followed.
Doctors highlight several risks associated with tubing. Tubes can be unpredictable: they can gain speed and have no brakes. Riding near roads, trees, or crowds increases the likelihood of accidents. Homemade inflatable rings, such as car tire inner tubes, which are not intended for recreational use, are considered particularly dangerous. It is also worth noting that children often ride without adult supervision.
To reduce the likelihood of injuries, doctors recommend the following:
- choose slopes that are specifically prepared for tubing;
- do not ride standing up and avoid sharing a tube unless intended;
- always supervise children;
- explain safety rules on the slope to children in advance.
