Mountain of garbage at the old landfill. The Bishkek City Hall promises it will disappear.

At the off-site meeting of the parliamentary groups "Mekenchil" and "Ata Jurt" on January 16, Deputy Alisher Kozyuev asked Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev about what will happen to the waste at the old landfill and whether it can be disposed of.

Kozyuev noted that this issue requires attention, as fires periodically break out, and the wind carries particles of garbage to nearby areas, contributing to the deterioration of air quality.

In turn, Deputy Shairbek Tashiev suggested filtering the waste from the soil and transferring solid household waste for recycling to the new plant.

Deputy Umbetaly Kydryliev also mentioned that the landfill has been operating for 50 years and inquired whether its reclamation is planned.

In response, Mayor Junushaliev stated that the issue of reclamation is not on the agenda, as the city administration will focus on completely eliminating the old landfill. A visit from the management of the new waste plant is expected soon, which will present its plans and proposals. "The landfill will completely disappear. This is possible. In 2026, we will begin work. It is necessary to study the entire technological process," he said.
