Bishkek City Court delivers verdict in the Kempiir-Abad case
Today, March 27, the Bishkek City Court continued the hearings concerning a group of 22 activists, journalists, and politicians from Kempiir-Abad, many of whom are under house arrest.

Among the defendants are: Mambetjunus Abylov, Aydanbek Akmatov, Nurlan Asanbekov, Akylbek Aitbaev, Azimbek Beknazarov, Marat Bayazov, Erlan Bekchoro uulu, Aibek Buzurmankulov, Atai Beyshenbek uulu, Ravshan Zheenbekov, Gulnara Dzhurabaeva, Chyngyz Kaparov, Rita Karasartova, Zhenish Moldokmatov, Ulukbek Mamatayev, Temir Mahmudov, Talaybek Mademinov, Klara Sooronkulova, Perizat Suranova, Asiya Sasykbaeva, Ilgiz Saryldyk uulu (Ilgiz Shamenov), and Shabdan Ali.

During the court session, the lawyers presented their arguments, and the defendants delivered their final statements. The judicial panel has now retired to the deliberation room to make a decision.

It is worth noting that the agreement with Uzbekistan regarding the border, signed in the fall of 2022, sparked a political scandal. Activists protesting against this agreement were detained in October 2022. They were charged with organizing mass riots under Article 278. Part of the case materials was closed to the lawyers, which drew criticism. Later, they were also charged under Article 326, concerning the violent seizure of power.

On June 14, the court issued an acquittal. However, the prosecutor's office requested to overturn this verdict.

The case is currently being reviewed in the appellate court.
