Where, when, and how the VI World Nomad Games will take place – details of the format

The VI World Nomad Games, scheduled for 2026, will take place in two key locations: the opening will be held in Bishkek, while the main events will unfold on the shores of Issyk-Kul. This was announced by Kazibek Moldazhiyev, the director of the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports of the Kyrgyz Republic, at a press conference organized by the Kabar agency.

The opening is planned for August 31 at the new "Bishkek Arena" stadium, coinciding with the anniversary summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Participants will be able to travel to Cholpon-Ata on September 1, where their accommodation will be organized, and the sporting competitions will begin on September 2 and last until September 6. The closing of the Games will also take place in Cholpon-Ata.

As Moldazhiyev noted, the main venues for the competitions will be four locations: the racetrack, the Gazprom sports and health complex, the Rukh-Ordo ethnocomplex, and Kychyn.

The program of the World Nomad Games includes eight main categories:

  • national games of various peoples;
  • horse racing;
  • competitions on horseback;
  • traditional wrestling;
  • strength sports;
  • intellectual games;
  • traditional archery;
  • hunting with falcons and dogs.
Nursultan Adenov, head of the International Secretariat of the World Nomad Games, emphasized that in addition to the sports component, a significant cultural block is planned. This includes evening concerts and an international ethnic festival featuring about 40 countries, showcasing the culture of the world's peoples through ethno-hits, ethno-fashion, ethno-dances, and ethno-storytelling.

Adenov noted that "Kyrgyzstan will create an atmosphere of traditional ethnic culture for the whole world, into which tourists can immerse themselves for an entire week."
It is also planned to create exhibition tourist zones, which will serve as an additional way to promote Kyrgyzstan's tourism potential.
