Uzbekistan and Tajikistan Launch Multimodal Corridor to China and Europe
Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have announced the launch of a test multimodal transport corridor that will connect China with Europe through Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey, bypassing the territory of Kazakhstan. This was reported by the Executive Committee of the CIS.
The initiative will begin with a test run, during which a convoy of ten trucks will travel from Uzbekistan to China through Tajikistan.
The launch of this route is the result of a joint decision by the transport ministers of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, who agreed to work together towards China and to transition to an electronic system for issuing permits for international freight transportation.
Additionally, there are plans to increase the capacity of the Jartepa - Sarazm border crossing. A logistics center will be established at the border, which will be able to process up to 100 trucks per day and expedite the documentation process.
Previously, the publication Kursiv Uzbekistan reported that the project company "China - Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan" signed an agreement worth $4.7 billion for the financing of a new railway.
