According to Abdirov, "the referendum can be considered valid, and the new Constitution put to vote should be considered adopted."
According to information from the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan, the total number of registered voters at the time of voting was 12 million 482 thousand 613 people. 9 million 127 thousand 192 people voted. At the same time, 146 thousand 558 ballots were deemed invalid, and 127 thousand 868 ballots were not counted.
It is expected that the new Constitution will come into force on July 1. The main changes concern the introduction of the position of vice president, the creation of a unicameral parliament consisting of 145 deputies elected on a party basis, as well as the formation of the People's Council — the highest advisory body with legislative initiative.
