The city authorities presented the project for a new facility
The Bishkek administration announced plans to create a cultural center on the site of the demolished 'Chatyr-Kul' cinema. This decision was made after a public discussion prompted by the destruction of the building.
It is worth noting that in November of last year, a fire occurred on the cinema's premises, after which the building was handed over to the city authorities, who promised to restore it.
In February 2026, photos began circulating on social media showing construction equipment starting to demolish the cinema. This sparked a negative reaction among the residents of Kyrgyzstan, especially against the backdrop of recent cases of destruction of cultural and historical sites in the capital.
