The Cabinet of Ministers has instructed the State Agency for Management of State Property and the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy to transfer the building of the 'Chatyr-Kul' cinema along with the adjacent land plot of 40 acres to the municipal ownership of the city of Bishkek.

According to the resolution, a social institution for children and the elderly is planned to be built on the site of the old cinema. This decision is aimed at improving citizens' access to social services.

The 'Chatyr-Kul' cinema was built in 1967. In 2010, it was nationalized and transferred to the management of the state youth theater 'Uchur'. However, no major renovations were carried out, and the theater used the building without significant reconstruction.

Throughout the 2010s, disputes arose around this property regarding ownership rights. The former owner claimed that his building was seized without compensation and demanded payment of about 3 million soms. Legal disputes lasted for several years, while the building itself gradually fell into disrepair.

As a result of a fire that occurred in November 2025, the roof of the building was damaged. After that, the Bishkek city hall expressed its intention to take the property onto its balance sheet.
