A health month for men 'Be Responsible!' has started in Kyrgyzstan.

The Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic has initiated the month "Be Responsible!", aimed at identifying risk factors for non-communicable diseases among men over 18 years old. According to representatives of the department, this campaign is focused on improving the early detection of chronic diseases and encouraging men to seek medical help in a timely manner.

As part of this initiative, men are recommended to undergo preventive medical examinations at primary healthcare facilities located in their place of residence. Such facilities include family medicine centers, general practitioner practices, family doctor groups, and midwifery and obstetric points.

Based on the results of previous campaigns, the high effectiveness of the event can be noted. In 2022, over 973 thousand men across the country underwent preventive screening for non-communicable diseases. Of these, 119.6 thousand, approximately 12%, were found to have high blood pressure. Additionally, 49.6 thousand men were recorded with a high risk of cardiovascular diseases, and nearly 60.8 thousand had a risk of diabetes.

In 2025, 15,388 people were registered for the first time with a diagnosis of hypertension, and 7,364 with a diagnosis of diabetes. In that same year, cardiovascular diseases were the cause of 16,644 deaths among the adult population of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The month "Be Responsible!" has been held since 2019 as part of the project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," which is funded by Switzerland. Currently, it is implemented annually under the guidance of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Non-communicable diseases, classified as chronic, include cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes. The main preventable risk factors are poor nutrition, smoking, alcohol abuse, and lack of physical activity.

The project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," funded by the Swiss government, is being implemented throughout the country with the aim of improving the health of the population, ensuring equal access to quality primary healthcare services, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
