The launch of the "Be Responsible!" month was initiated by the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan to identify risk factors for non-communicable diseases among men aged 18 and older.

Men are invited to undergo preventive medical consultations at healthcare facilities in their place of residence, including Family Medicine Centers and rural health posts.

The results of last year's campaign were impressive: over 973,000 men across the country underwent screening for non-communicable diseases. Elevated blood pressure was detected in 119,600 individuals (12%), 49,600 men (5%) were at high risk for cardiovascular diseases, and 60,800 men (6%) were at risk of developing diabetes.

In 2025, 15,388 men were registered for the first time with a diagnosis of hypertension, and 7,364 with a diagnosis of diabetes. Cardiovascular diseases were the cause of 16,644 deaths among the adult population of Kyrgyzstan in the same year.

The health month was first launched in 2019 as part of the project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," which is funded by Switzerland, and has since been held annually under the guidance of the Ministry of Health.

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are chronic diseases, including cardiovascular, oncological, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes. The main preventable risk factors are poor nutrition, smoking, alcohol abuse, and lack of physical activity.

The goal of the project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," funded by the Swiss government, is to improve the health and well-being of the country's population by ensuring equal access to quality healthcare services and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The project is implemented throughout Kyrgyzstan.
