The Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic has announced the start of a national month titled "Be Responsible!", aimed at identifying risk factors for non-communicable diseases in men aged 18 and older.
As part of this initiative, the ministry recommends that men visit primary healthcare facilities in their place of residence. These may include family medicine centers, general practice clinics, family doctor groups, or midwifery and obstetric points, where they can receive preventive consultations.
In 2025, during a similar campaign, over 973,000 men across the country underwent screening for non-communicable diseases.
Of these, 119.6 thousand men (12 percent) were found to have elevated blood pressure. Additionally, 49.6 thousand men (5 percent) were in the high-risk group for cardiovascular diseases, and about 60.8 thousand (6 percent) were at high risk for developing diabetes.
In 2025, 15.4 thousand people were newly registered with a diagnosis of hypertension, and 7.4 thousand with a diagnosis of diabetes. Cardiovascular diseases were responsible for 16.6 thousand deaths among the adult population of Kyrgyzstan.
This month was first launched in 2019 as part of the project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," which is funded by Switzerland. Since then, it has been held annually under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.
- Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) include chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes. The main preventable risk factors are poor nutrition, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and lack of physical activity.
