The deadline for free replacement of driver's licenses may be extended

The discussion about the possible extension of the deadline for the free exchange of driver's licenses has become relevant thanks to a statement by Daiyrbek Orunbekov, who heads the information policy service at the administration of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.

He noted that at the moment, the free exchange of old-style licenses is being carried out.

“Initially, this process was allocated one month. If someone does not manage to complete the exchange within the specified time, we will provide additional time, so there is no need to worry. In addition, for the convenience of citizens, we have canceled the requirement to provide a medical certificate in form 083, which was previously mandatory,” he added.

Orunbekov also mentioned the problem of counterfeit old-style licenses, which have become widespread. “We are still receiving reports that such documents are being produced and sold in Moscow. Many of the licenses have already faded photographs and inscriptions,” he clarified.

Moreover, old-style licenses cannot be recognized at the international level.

In contrast, new driver's licenses are accepted in a number of countries and can be used without restrictions. Additionally, the new documents will be digitized, which will help eliminate counterfeiting,” the head of the service explained.

He also added that after the exchange process is completed, old licenses will be considered invalid.

“The main thing is that we are creating conditions for free exchange without additional document requirements. Citizens whose licenses are not digitized and not registered in the 'Tündük' system need to visit the relevant branches in person.

Those whose licenses are already displayed in the 'Tündük' system will have access to document exchange in an online format, which will allow them to avoid visiting branches,” he concluded.
