Who Must Personally Change Their Permanent Driver's License and Who Can Do It Online?

In Kyrgyzstan, a mass replacement of indefinite driver's licenses is being carried out.

Kanybek Tumanbaev, the chief of staff of the president, visited the State Center for Vehicle Registration and Driver Licensing, where this process is taking place.

He explained the reasons for transitioning to new driver's licenses.

“The old licenses do not have a digital format and are not recognized in some neighboring countries, which creates difficulties when using documents abroad. Therefore, those who plan to use their driver's licenses outside the Kyrgyz Republic need to switch to the new samples for their legitimization and compliance with modern international standards,” Tumanbaev noted.

Moreover, the old indefinite licenses have a low level of security. Many of them contain outdated photographs, which complicates identity verification and creates a risk of fraud, as the document can be used by unauthorized individuals. The new licenses have improved security features, reducing such risks and simplifying the work of road safety officials.

Kanybek Tumanbaev also urged citizens to follow the established procedures to avoid congestion:

  • Citizens whose driver's licenses are not digitized and are not in the "Tündük" system should apply in person to replace their documents;
  • Citizens whose licenses are displayed in the "Tündük" system are recommended to replace them online, without visiting the center.
This approach is aimed at enhancing the security of documents, simplifying the process for citizens, and optimizing the work of government agencies.

Currently, the replacement of licenses through the "Tunduk" portal is unavailable.
