Toktogul Reservoir - Water Levels Decrease, Cabinet Demands Adherence to Electricity Limits
There is a growing consumption of electricity in the country.
A meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic was held, dedicated to the autumn-winter heating season for 2025-2026.
According to the Ministry of Energy, electricity consumption in the country continues to increase. In 2025, it reached 19.3 billion kWh, which is 900 million kWh more than in 2024. Of this, 15.4 billion kWh was produced domestically, while 3.9 billion kWh was imported.
This year, as in other regions of Central Asia, there has been a decrease in water inflow. In particular, the water level in the Toktogul reservoir is 9.102 billion m³, which is 1.631 billion m³ less compared to the same time in 2025.
Experts point out that the lack of water may negatively affect electricity production. Therefore, it is extremely important to adhere to the established consumption limits, although in practice this is not always achievable.
As for coal reserves, they are sufficient for successfully navigating the current heating season. A total of 3,174,792 tons of coal is required for the heating season. Coal and fuel oil reserves have also been formed at the CHPP in Bishkek and Osh.
