Baktyyar Kalpaev: 1,500 Kyrgyz prisoners have been waiting for extradition for years
“It is necessary to bring them back to their homeland, as there is a risk that they may be recruited by various terrorist groups. Some of them have been waiting for their extradition for many years — from several years to ten. Protecting our compatriots should be a priority for the state,” the deputy emphasized.
The Deputy Attorney General, Umutkan Konkubaeva, previously reported that there are currently 1,210 Kyrgyz citizens serving sentences in Russian prisons. According to her, in 2024, 128 citizens convicted outside the country were returned to Kyrgyzstan, of which 118 were from Russia. In 2025, the number of returnees increased to 221, and decisions have already been made regarding the return of another 124 Kyrgyz citizens.
