Russia denied the repatriation of 144 convicted citizens of Kyrgyzstan.

At a meeting of the parliamentary committee on judicial and legal issues, law enforcement, combating crime, and countering corruption, Deputy Attorney General Umutkan Konkubayeva reported that Russia refused to transfer 144 citizens of Kyrgyzstan who are in correctional facilities.
Topics discussed
More than 1,200 Kyrgyz citizens are serving sentences in Russian prisons.

She specified that the Kyrgyz side submitted a total of 449 requests for the transfer of convicts; however, in 144 cases, Russian authorities denied the requests, citing non-compliance with the conditions of the existing agreement or that the individuals were convicted of serious and especially serious crimes, including murder.

Konkubayeva also noted that the issue of opening a prosecutor's office representative in Russia had previously been discussed. The problem of funding, including the payment of staff salaries, remains unresolved.
