The number of hepatitis and liver cirrhosis cases is rising in Tash-Kumyr.

A deputy demands explanations from the authorities

At a meeting of the committee on agrarian policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection, Deputy Gulsharkan Kultaeva expressed her concern about the rising number of hepatitis cases in the city of Tash-Kumyr.

She noted that residents often complain, indicating that every year five to six people fall ill with liver cirrhosis, which sometimes leads to death. The deputy also emphasized that the relevant ministries do not provide clear explanations regarding the causes of the spread of this disease.

“People hear various versions — water, animals, fish. These are just assumptions. But the population needs a concrete answer. Why is no one taking measures? Free tests are unavailable, and this infectious disease poses a threat to the entire population,” Kultaeva emphasized.

In response, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and the Processing Industry Zhanibek Kerimaliev noted that some liver diseases can be transmitted from animals to humans. In particular, he mentioned echinococcosis and alveococcosis, which can be caused by dogs, cats, and wild animals such as wolves and foxes.

Kerimaliev also mentioned that in Tash-Kumyr, the quality of water may be a cause of the diseases. He noted that both people and animals bathe in the Naryn River, and therefore the water should undergo a three-stage purification process before consumption.
