Kyrgyzstan to Receive a $30 Million Loan for Wildlife Monitoring


In addition, $1.79 million will be allocated as a grant


At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee on agrarian policy, ecology, and water resources, it was announced that Kyrgyzstan has received a loan of $30 million intended for wildlife monitoring.

The Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, noted that the project aims to improve the health of both people and animals, as well as enhance the ecological situation in the country.

For the implementation of the first phase of the project, the International Development Association and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development will provide a loan of $30 million and a grant of $1.79 million. The loan terms include a 50-year period with a 10-year grace period and a zero interest rate.

Planned expenditures include the construction of two veterinary laboratories and the modernization of six existing ones. Two mobile laboratories will also be acquired, 40 veterinary control points will be established at the borders, and 78 livestock markets will receive upgraded veterinary and sanitary laboratories. Additionally, district veterinary offices will be equipped with the necessary equipment to train future specialists. The program will also procure vaccines against brucellosis, 32 pickups, and 22 mini-tractors, as well as organize seven regional centers for the rehabilitation of wild animals.

Part of the funding will be distributed among two other ministries.

After discussion, the committee approved the project in the first reading.
