In Kyrgyzstan, they want to build seven wildlife rehabilitation centers

At the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on agricultural policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection on January 12, a bill concerning the funding of a project to create rehabilitation centers for wild animals was approved.

Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Food Processing Zhanibek Kerimaliev noted that the initiative aims to improve the health of both people and animals, as well as to enhance the state of the environment in the country.

The first stage of the project includes three key areas:

  • Combating zoonotic infections: increasing control over diseases among animals, developing effective methods for diagnosis and treatment, and informing the public about the risks of infections transmitted from animals to humans.
  • Preventing antimicrobial resistance: rational use of antibiotics in medicine and veterinary medicine, developing alternative treatment methods, and preventing the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
  • Ensuring food safety: improving sanitary conditions at all stages of production and processing, as well as strengthening quality control of products.
According to Kerimaliev, funds will be allocated for the construction of two new veterinary laboratories, modernization of six existing ones, the purchase of two mobile laboratories, and the installation of 40 veterinary checkpoints at borders. Additionally, 78 livestock markets are expected to undergo reconstruction of veterinary and sanitary laboratories, and district veterinary departments and training bases for future specialists will be equipped with modern equipment. Purchases of vaccines against brucellosis, 32 pickups, and 22 mini-tractors are also planned. In turn, seven regional centers will be established for the rehabilitation of wild animals.

Additional funds will be allocated to two other ministries to carry out tasks within their authority.
