Activists and former colleagues of Mahabat, who were also involved in the case, attended the event. The journalist's mother was present in the hall, tears welling in her eyes, and she was unable to comment on the court's decision due to strong emotions.
Mahabat's relatives emphasized that it is too early to talk about her release, although they hope for it. Nevertheless, they view today’s proceedings as a small step towards restoring justice from the judicial authorities and the government.
It is worth reminding that Mahabat Tajibek kyzy was detained in January 2024 along with ten employees of Temirov Live. They were charged with organizing mass riots. On February 25, 2025, the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan reviewed the appeal of three journalists among those detained and upheld the previous decision: Mahabat was sentenced to six years in prison, Azamat Ishenbekov received five years, and Aika Beishieva was found guilty with a three-year probation sentence. Aktilek Kaparov received three years of probation and did not appeal the decision. The other seven defendants in the case were acquitted due to lack of evidence of a crime.
